A beginner and general level workshop in honour of Geeta Iyengar's birthday with Glenys Shepherd
£40.00

On 7 Dec, the anniversary of Geeta S Iyengar’s (Geetaji’s) birth, Glenys Shepherd will teach a yoga day of Yoga Kurunta - using the support of ropes to give greater freedom of movement and upliftment in yogasana practice.

You will discover the imaginative adaptation of yogsanas with ropes beyond their more familiar use in ‘ rope dog’ (Adho Mukha Svanasa) and ‘rope headstand’ (Sirsasana) to assist in achieving increased range of movement and flexibility.

Traditionally the ancient practice of Yoga Kurunta, with ropes suspended from trees and the like, remained in the domain of men. BKS Iyengar pioneered the installation of ropes when he established the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune India and ropes became integral to the practice of Iyengar Yoga. In Geetaji’s book, Yoga a Gem for Women, she gives clear photographic guidance on the use of ropes, laying out for the first time how ropes may be integrated into yoga practice by all.

Glenys is the teacher who originally established IYISL over 25 years ago and her teaching reflects decades of learning from Guruji and Geetaji as well as her own teaching experience. Her teaching is always both inspiring and fun!
