This workshop with Richard Ward will include a pranayama practice followed by an asana class which will link to the work done in the pranayama class.
He will be looking at Patanjali's Yamas and Niyamas and how they relate to our practise of Pranayama and Asana, as well as how they fit into traditional Yoga philosophy.
Richard will suggest how the Yamas illustrate the problems of Chitta Vrtti (fluctuations etc. of consciousness) and the ensuing problems people face. Richard will explain how Patanjali offers a workable solution with Niyamas, starting with saucha and santosa and then in tandem with tapas, svadhyaya and ishvara pranidhana. We can begin to see what these terms really mean, both for us in our lives and in our practice of yoga.
This workshop is suitable for those with more than a year of practice who would like to know more about the application of yoga philosophy to yoga practice.
Richard is senior Iyengar yoga teacher well known for his reflective and detailed approach to teaching yoga. He first started going to yoga classes in 1975 and then started studying yoga with BKS Iyengar in 1976. He started teaching yoga in 1977.
